Why aren’t people like those listed below putting their hands deep into their vast pockets? It would be very easy to believe they don’t actually care about the starving millions, particularly since the crash of 2008 they have all seen their wealth ballooning at an ever faster rate. And just to remind you, one billion is £1,000,000,000 or a thousand million. Puts the five million saturday lottery jackpot in its place, that’s for sure.
Gerald Cavendish Grovesnor – thirteen billion pounds. (Thirteen thousand million pounds! Ye gods! And he is nowhere near being the richest person in the world, not by a thousand miles. If he donated £60 million, he’d only have twelve thousand, nine hundred and forty million quid left, poor love).
David and Simon Reuben – eight billion pounds.
Phillip Green – seven billion, two hundred million pounds.
Bernie Ecclestone – four billion, two hundred million pounds.
Richard Branson – four billion, two hundred million pounds.
Charles Cadogan – four billion, two hundred million pounds.
Bruno Schroder – three billion, seven hundred million pounds.
Joe Lewis – three billion, two hundred million pounds.
David and Frederick Barclay – three billion, two hundred million pounds.
Richard Elman – two billion, eight hundred million pounds.
And what about a few of those who are always beating their chests and imploring you to give to charity?
Bono – two hundred million pounds.
Elton John – one hundred and ninety-five million pounds.
Sting – one hundred and eighty million pounds.
Paul McCartney – four hundred and ninety-five million pounds.
Andrew Lloyd Webber – six hundred and eighty million pounds.
Simon Cowell – two hundred million pounds.
Mick Jagger – one hundred and eighty million pounds.
And these and many other super greedy, super rich people (and the wanker bankers, of course), are also the reason the average person on the street is finding it ever more of a struggle to survive. As our standards of living plummet, as we are driven into fuel poverty and watch food prices soaring, as our incomes are frozen and sinking fast, the wealth of billionaires is growing and growing by the day.
If these people truly gave a flying fuck about anything other than their own avarice (avarice: Insatiable greed for riches), not a person in this world would be going hungry or without medical care. I saw a figure recently that said the two hundred and fifty thousand richest people in Britain are worth one point four trillion. They could match the sixty million raised yesterday and not even notice it was gone. But they won’t, because enough is never enough. The rich elites won’t be satisfied until every gold coin on the planet is in their vaults and probably not even then. Watch out for your fillings…
We’re all in this together? Don’t be a cunt.
